Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do you recommend for long term storage?

If you plan to keep your treats or chews longer than a week we recommend storing them in the freezer. This prevents them from collecting moisture and will increase their longevity. They can be fed frozen, too!

  • How often should I give my dog fur-on treats/chews?

Fur-on treats/ chews should be introduced slowly, just like anything else. Over time the amount can be increased. Our dog gets fur-on pieces daily in her raw meals. Monitor your dog’s stool to determine how much fur your individual dog can handle.

  • Why are some skins light and some skins dark?

Rabbits and cattle shed throughout the year. When this happens, their skin turns dark in spots. This is why some treats and chews have a dark color and some are lighter.

  • Why do some chews appear larger than others?

Rabbit - Different breeds of rabbits have varying lengths and thicknesses in their fur. During the colder months, their fur also gets thicker. This can make some braids and twists appear different in size.

Beef - The fur on beef hides varies in thickness and length depending on the location on the hide. It also thickens in the winter.

  • Where are your hides sourced?

Rabbit - The hides from rabbits that we don’t raise ourselves are sourced in Wisconsin from small-scale farms and homesteaders that we know on a personal level. The rabbits are ethically raised for human consumption.

Beef - The beef hides we use are sourced in Wisconsin from small-scale farms and homesteads that we know personally. The cattle are raised sustainably for human consumption.

We have a high standard for animal welfare and and ethical practices and only source from families that uphold these standards.

  • Can my cat have your Rabbit Hide Products?

    What about hair balls?

Cats tend to play with our Rabbit Hide Products rather than eat them. They do usually like to eat our Rabbit Ear Treats, which have significantly less hair/ fur on them. If your cat is prone to hairballs, supervise them while playing with the items and remove them if they begin to eat them. You can learn more in our Blog Post.
