The pheasants are raised and humanely harvested by a family in Wisconsin. The pheasants are plucked for human consumption, so the heads do not have feathers. We leave the rest of the head intact to provide a variety of natural textures and nutrients.
Each pheasant head contains meat, bone, and organs. Pheasant is also considered a novel protein, making it a great choice for adding variety to your pet’s treat rotation.
After harvesting, the pheasant heads are freeze dried. This is a drying process called lyophilization. Water (ice) is put under pressure and removed through sublimation. Freeze drying retains about 97% of nutrients, whereas dehydrating only retains 60-70%.
