The quail are raised and humanely harvested by us in Wisconsin. We leave the feathers intact because they provide natural roughage and can support healthy digestion as they move through the digestive tract. Feathers also add texture and make these whole-prey treats more interesting for your pet.
Quail is considered a novel protein, making it a great option for pets with food sensitivities or allergies. These whole quail heads contain natural meat, bone, organs, and feathers, with nothing added.
After the quail are harvested, the heads are freeze dried. This is a drying process called lyophilization. Water (ice) is put under pressure and removed through sublimation. Freeze drying retains about 97% of nutrients, whereas dehydrating only retains 60-70%.
